About me
Hello. My name is Michael Granger. I am a freelance web designer, graphic artist, and photographer from Batavia, NY. This is my portfolio, located at Nillerz dot Net.
Most of my work is done in 100% valid XHTML and CSS. I usually try to use a PHP backend, and prefer to support open-source developers and projects by using GNU licensed software. I do most of my photo editing in The Gimp, but am also familiar with Photoshop. I also produce much of my own graphics by hand, using software such as Flash. I am experienced at animating in Flash, and using the platform for embedded video and site navigation, though I prefer to not use Flash for navigation if it can be avoided, as it is a web-design pet-peeve. I like to use the jQuery Javascript library.
Some of my web-design pet peeves include embedded music, use of AJAX when unecessary, over-use of Javascript for things that you don't need Javascript to do, table-based layouts, non-valid code, using image formats in ways they aren't ideal for, and browser incompatibilty, among other things. I strive for making my sites easy to navigate, with items appearing where one would expect them to appear, and without annoying menu systems, auto-starting flash videos, and other things that annoy people. I also aim to make sites that are visually appealing, as I feel that black text on a white background really causes eye-strain. I choose colors that go well together and include a mix of contrasting hues with complimentary tones.
If you would like to hire me for a project, feel free to send me an e-mail at webmaster
nillerz.net. Please mention that you would like to hire me and mention this portfolio, as I receive a lot of e-mail and may not know where it's coming from otherwise.
This portfolio is under development right now, but please check back later for more of my work.
